trascendenza: ed and stede smiling. "st(ed)e." (nx marilyn.)
From: [personal profile] trascendenza
Name/stats/about you: [personal profile] trascendenza. I have an about me post that should cover it all.

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Cheerleader, creator, beta. My current plan is to do a mixed media project centering around Marilyn Whirlwind from Northern Exposure, because I find it tragic that there's hardly any fanwork out there about her and I LOVE HER TO PIECES.

Your top three favorite women: Other than Marilyn, hmmm, I think I'd have to go with: Kira Nerys from Deep Space Nine (one of my earliest crushes; I thank Trek for a lot of my early proto-queerness), Storm from X-Men, and Brigitte Lin.

More space to love on women: Cara/Kahlan from Legend of the Seeker kills me more with every progressive episode. Also, I can't be the only one who's into Shota/Kahlan, can I? Because nnnngh. I also really like: Hunter from Neverwhere, Guinan from TNG, Denise from Women's Murder Club, Roxy and Daisy (and Roxy/Daisy) from Dead Like Me, Jessi from Kyle XY, Joanna from Eastwick (and the OT3, and Joanna/Kat, Joanna/Max, and Joanna/Penny), Mahandra/Jaye (and Mahandra/Sharon and Mahandra/Aaron, because apparently you can't go wrong 'shipping Mahandra with a Tyler), Parker/Maggie from Leverage. And a lot more that I'm probably forgetting, as well as some random rare pairings, like Leeloo/Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element and Sacajawea/Rebecca from Night at the Museum.

What's your style of journaling? Pretty random! It involves a mix of real life, fanwork, squee, reviews, meta, linkblogging and whatever happens to catch my interest at the moment.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I like to fic, icon, occasionally do graphics or art. My consumption is totally sporadic but is mostly fic, meta, picspams (many a picspam has lured me into a fandom I never otherwise would have touched), and whatever art or vid recs that pop up on my reading list that sound interesting.

An example post or a few: linkblogging, Being Erica.
Any woman-centric recs to share? I really enjoyed this Supernatural ficlet and this Primeval ficlet by [personal profile] leda_speaks.
Free space: My latest ladycrush.

shopfront: Disney. Belle reading a book. (Disney - [Belle] can't put the book down)
From: [personal profile] shopfront
Name/stats/about you: I go by Lunar or [personal profile] shopfront. The stats are: lesbian, student, Australian, 22 years old, bi-polar, reader, writer, aspiring cat lady, chocoholic, social liberal, spiritual agnostic.
How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? I'm doing a multi-fandom mixed-media work focused on women from sci-fi and fantasy canons, betaing, and cheerleading. Er, and I'm one of the mods, but I promise I'm not scary! ;)
Your top three favorite women: Fictional women of the moment - Bonnie (The Vampire Diaries, tv), Alex (Ashes to Ashes), and Cara (Legend of the Seeker)
More space to love on women: Now, see, you can't give me an open ended directive like that. Too many women, not enough time! Suffice to say, women are awesome, and while I tend to have a handful of strong boyslash OTPs on the go and read any and all sorts of fic, my heart has been sold to femslash fandom and female characters.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I tend to create fic and fanmixes primarily, with a smattering of graphics here and there. I keep dipping my toe in the vidding pool but never quite posting anything, so I'm hoping this challenge with be the push I need to get over that hurdle. I mostly read fic, but I have a soft spot for fanmixes, mixed media works, and the occasional vid. I also write original fiction (usually sci-fi or fantasy in genre, female or lesbian centric), though it's not something that I talk about much. My journal is very much my fandom space, even when I'm talking about RL.
What's your style of journaling? I tend to post linkspams, fanworks, and the occasional discussion post or canon response/review outside of lock, plus a lot of more generalised blather and RL-related things under lock/filter as appropriate. I have a filter where I talk about mental illness and bi-polar related things, which is opt-in and welcomes anyone on my access list.
An example post or a few: My last follow friday: http://shopfront.dreamwidth.org/328891.html, my last fic (Cara/Kahlan, LotS): http://shopfront.dreamwidth.org/330633.html, and my last fanmix (Aeon Flux/La Femme Nikita): http://shopfront.dreamwidth.org/325284.html

senmut: modern style black canary on right in front of modern style deathstroke (Default)
From: [personal profile] senmut
Name/stats/about you: Filly, or Merfilly
How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Fic, if it will behave. Seriously, two strong women YAY, but narrative voice, please be distinguishing!
Your top three favorite women: Jean Auel, my Girlfriend, Sally Ride
More space to love on women: Any woman who has ever stood up and refused to be unseen, unheard, or anything along those lines is a hero!
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? Fic and graphics, some fanmixes. I'm not so strong on podfics, but I also have trouble comprehending language as spoken versus as written.
What's your style of journaling? I have a style? Umm, I mean it's drabbles from all over interspersed with memes and occasional bits of real me plus seriousness.
An example post or a few: Drabble, Serious (Access-Locked), Meme
Any woman-centric recs to share? YES! [personal profile] rhi owned my soul with a Highlander Rebecca piece right here
Free space: Umm, go women! And I tend to grant access to any who grant it to me, provided there's no ties back to my ex or other awkward encounters.

birgitriddle: (Default)
From: [personal profile] birgitriddle
Name/stats/about you: Holly/Birgit, 24 years old, college student majoring in history
How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? As a writer. I plan on writing a Fullmetal Alchemist fic using manga and second anime canon about Riza Hawkeye's life before the series.
Your top three favorite women: Right now, Riza Hawkeye (obviously), Abby from NCIS, Haruka Tenoh from Sailor Moon
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I write both fanfiction and original fiction, mostly fantasy. The style of writing that's my favorite is prose, though I have a thing for poetry at times.
What's your style of journaling? Talk about my own life (usually under access-lock) and babbling about fannish things and I'm starting to attempt to write more meta.

shanaqui: Possessed Meg from Supernatural, trapped under a magic seal. ((Meg) Trapped)
From: [personal profile] shanaqui
Name/stats/about you: My name's Nikki, I'm nearly (ohgod) twenty-one, Welsh, pansexual, engaged to my girlfriend of nearly (ohgod) five years. I'm a Unitarian Universalist, but I haven't talked much about my faith for a long time.
How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Writing fic.
Your top three favorite women: My girlfriend, Dar Williams (folk singer), Summer Glau (mostly as River Tam, but she's always awesome).
More space to love on women: Funny story: Supernatural fandom's attitude toward the women characters pissed me off so much that at one point, I made it a point to have an icon of every single named speaking-part female on the show. I have kept a surprising number of them for quite a while, and have fallen in love with a lot more of the women characters in the time because of it.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I write and read fic, I like to look at art. Audio stuff is a tad more problematic: I'm partially deaf. Music is okay, podfic not so much.
What's your style of journaling? I talk about whatever happened during the day, and whatever came to mind, and the stuff I need to do or stuff I'm looking forward to. Consequently, a lot of posts end up a mishmash of Deep Thought and "zomg zomg my daddy's coming to see me tomorrow!!!" (not a quote). People reassure me that it's interesting.
An example post or a few: I can't really share, because my day to day posts are always access locked. There's one relatively recent post on my experience of sexual assault: pretty heavy going, and a tad more formal than my day-to-day writing, but it might give you an idea of the kind of person I am.
Any woman-centric recs to share? My brain is, just at this moment, utterly blank. The only woman-centric thing I've been absorbed by lately is my own AU Big Bang fic, in which Ellen Harvelle plays a central part. (Damn, maybe she should've been on my list of top three favourite women...)
Free space: Anyone who adds me on this meme, I'll add back -- no need to go leave a comment on my 'f-only' post. ranrata: (dollhouse-loomis)
From: [personal profile] ranrata
Name/stats/about you: [personal profile] ranrata or [personal profile] sonjadenise
How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? I'm writing fic for Dollhouse, and of course I pick the two most minor characters to focus on! I'm also doing a lot of beta-ing.
Your top three favorite women: Oh, this is hard, even limiting it to fictional women. Hm, Adelle DeWitt (Dollhouse), Sumire Iwaya (Tramps Like Us/Kimi wa Pet), and...I can't choose between Amber Volakis (House) and Martha Jones (Doctor Who/Torchwood).
More space to love on women: I'm giving True Blood another chance because I love Tara (and Lafayette, but not a woman, so...). All the women on Nurse Jackie are amazing, and Ai Yazawa is my hero.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? As far as fanworks: fanfiction, fanvideos, meta, occasional fanart, icons. Love reading fic and meta. I also write original fiction and write/draw comics.
What's your style of journaling? Mostly fanworks, a lot of picspams, and some episode/season reaction posts. Mostly House and Doctor Who, but trying to spread the love to other fandoms. On [personal profile] sonjadenise, I post artwork and writing, and stuff related to my comic once it's up and running.
An example post or a few: [personal profile] ranrata Jackie/Eleanor picspam, Amy Amy Amy Pond, TL;DR thoughts on Big Love Season 4 / [personal profile] sonjadenise Life Drawing Workshop, The Question (original fic)
Any woman-centric recs to share? I run [community profile] blackwomeninfiction, but, uh, I need to give it some more love...

Name/stats/about you: Ailelie also called LilyAyl. 25 years old. I am currently finishing up my thesis and last class for my Masters.

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Writer.

Your top three favorite women: Wren from the Wren series by Sherwood Smith, Kate, and my favorite-of-the-moment would be Amy from Doctor Who

More space to love on women: A Short List

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? Fanfic. Long, short, whatever. Characterization is very important to me. I hate when a character is bent to serve the plot, rather than vice versa. My reading tastes vary from day-to-day, mood-to-mood.

What's your style of journaling? Random observations and bits of stories. Some navel-gazing. Memes when I'm bored.

An example post or a few: Currently I am writing a loose-jointed story about two women: Annie and Melissa. I've also posted my reactions to the latest Who ep as well, here and here. (Beware spoilers)

From: [personal profile] ok_so_lets_go
Name/stats/about you: shallow_moi. About me: English, lesbian, love travelling, food, beer, sci-fi and fantasy conventions, meeting other fans. Have one very old cat, Lucy. In RL I'm the Director of a small charity, and I love my job - I'm constantly busy and never bored and no two days are ever the same. (More about me on my LiveJournal account, same username.)
How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? As a creator (picspam/s.) Planning something on Olivia Benson (SVU) or other hot women with guns as I have an obsession with female cops, women, kevlar and guns! This will be my first public posting of stuff, so should be interesting! (Would have liked to offer to beta or cheerlead as well, but I'm not sure I'll have the time and didn't want to not see it through.)
Your top three favorite women: Hard to only pick three - there are so many! Lucy Lawless (because of Xena, which started so much for me - it literally changed my life) and because she's all-round wonderful. Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Victorian author of sensation fiction, best known for Lady Audley's Secret, a wonderful and very subversive tale of bigamy, arson, madness, attempted murder, marriage and women's place in 'respectable' society - everyone should read it! MEB started out on the stage, turning actress to support her mother and sister after her father abandoned the family; she then started writing 'Penny Dreadful' stories for the same reason. She later lived with her publisher, raising his 5 children as well as 6 of her own - they were unable to marry for some years as his first wife was in a mental institution. All this and she wrote 90 books, and lived to be 80! A phenomenon. Mariska Hargitay, because for all her faults (and believe me, I know what they are!) her portrayal of Detective Benson was/is still groundbreaking.
More space to love on women: Gosh, where to start! Women are just awesome, aren't we? I have so much admiration for the many real women throughout history who were vilified as pioneers and who fought so hard for all the things we now take for granted. But as someone who grew up with the original Charlie's Angels, my current loves are all those tough and/or cute cops, lawyers and other crimefighters who run around kicking doors down and looking hot! So, Emily Prentiss and JJ Jareau in Criminal Minds, Olivia Benson (still, although I'm fighting with myself over this!), Abby Sciuto in NCIS, Stella Bonasera in CSI New York - and I totally love The Good Wife, because Kalinda Sharma is just something else (and I've loved Juliana Margulies forever!) I also have a soft spot for some old and cancelled shows - Judging Amy, Crossing Jordan, Women's Murder Club - anything with cute and/or hot women in the title role.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I love fanfiction, and I must have read thousands of stories over the years, ever since the early days of Xena altfic. My favourites are those that really capture the voice of the characters, and add another layer of interest to the original canon. I also love seeing how fan writers deal with issues thrown up by a show's original writers - JJ's pregnancy in Criminal Minds, or Alex's 'death' in SVU, for example - it can be a great celebration and affirmation of fan creativity. I particularly love AUs, for the additional scope it ofers to writers. I don't write fic myself - I do a fair amount of writing at work, and I only have so much imagination to go around! I've recently started creating picspams, so I'm seeing where that leads me. Oh, and I love appropriately shippy videos!
What's your style of journaling? Much rambling and ranting about TV shows and various fandoms, pretty opinionated when I feel like it. I've not been online journalling for very long, although I have a ton of notebooks around my house with all kinds of notes in them, and I used to run a Yahoo group, so I'm just getting my stuff together really. Some personal stuff, which is f-locked.
An example post or a few: Try these: Ranting about fanfic, SVU rambling and picspam
Any woman-centric recs to share? My favourite Criminal Minds (AU) fanfic: Keeper of the Winds by lysachan - I rec this all over the place - because I love it!
Free space: Enough already!

esmenet: Little!Anthy with swords (Default)
From: [personal profile] esmenet
Name/stats/about you: Esmenet. Sixteen, big on fandom and short on normal-people social skills.

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Beta and cheerleading. I'd also be writing fic, but I'm not sure I trust myself with long stories yet.

Your top three favorite women: I'm going to cheat on this one. Top three fictional women of the moment: Sasaya Yuu (from Ashita no Ousama), Major General Olivia Armstrong (from Fullmetal Alchemist), and Bianchi (from Katekyo Hitman Reborn). Top three real women of the moment: [personal profile] bookshop, Lady Gaga, and [personal profile] branchandroot (I don't remember if you ever actually said you were female or not. Sorry?).

More space to love on women: You know those works (particularly some manga) that are in all other ways great, and then you notice there's a huge gender imbalance and the female characters who are there seem to spend there time cooking, cleaning, and getting rescued? I think I'd like to spend some time just fleshing out their characters. Because even if the canon trivializes them, ignores them, robs them of agency, I don't have to.

Also, Yoko from Sea of Shadow is really really fantastic, as are all the characters in Monstrous Regiment. And I've recently fallen hard for a certain subset of josei manga -- things like Ashita no Ousama, Oishii Kankei, Nana, and Gokusen -- that explores female characters through both their career and their everyday lives.

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I mostly go for (and write) fic and meta, although I've been thinking of trying to make a fanmix. I'm still learning how to like things despite their problems, instead of ignoring the issues altogether -- which is, surprisingly, less of a problem in fandom than it is in original fiction.
What's your style of journaling? I mostly talk about fandom meta stuff -- ranging from 'I just noticed this thing in Utena that references work-X and is also a good place to get a discussion started about issue-Y' to 'I HAVE A GREAT IDEA FOR A CROSSOVER' -- but I sometimes do fic and non-fandom stuff, too.
An example post or a few: This do?

damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
From: [personal profile] damkianna
Name/stats/about you: Damkianna, or Damki. The basic facts are: probably asexual, American, twenty-one years old, incredibly shy, highly liberal, and an atheist.
How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? I'm writing a fic. Which is probably going to end up gigantic, seeing as I'm about a seventh of the way through it and it's already past the minimum. D:
Your top three favorite women: I'm going to stick with fictional, or else it would get really crazy. At the moment, I am madly in love with Toph Bei Fong (Avatar: The Last Airbender), and I have had longer-running ladycrushes on Xena (Warrior Princess, of course) and Fran (Strictly Ballroom, which, probably not a lot of people have seen that, so).
More space to love on women: Oh, man, I could go on and on and on. TV fandoms alone have given me Fiona Glennane and Madeline Westen, Dani Reese, Zoe and Inara and Kaylee and River, Gwen and Morgana, Delenn and Ivanova and Talia and Lyta and Na'Toth, pretty much all of the women of Star Trek (Uhura! Troi! Crusher! Guinan! Kira! Jadzia! Janeway! B'Elanna! Seven!) ... And that's not even an exhaustive list of TV alone - plus it doesn't touch my book and movie loves, which are many and varied.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I read all kinds of stuff; most of my OTPs are slash and femslash, but I still read het and gen (especially at Yuletide). I also consume a lot of meta and picspams; icons, somewhat less so, though I used to collect them heavily. Vids, I am starting to acquire more of, and I am - slowly - getting better at understanding the more complex ones. The fic I write covers the same range as the fic I read - and also has basically never seen the light of day. I've been a lurker nearly all my time in fandom; LBB is going to be the first time I ever really post a fic for public consumption. D: I suppose I write meta sometimes, but it's usually my rambling thoughts, not, like, actual essays.
What's your style of journaling? So far, mostly nattering about my RL, with a fair number of posts about my media consumption. I think there's one meme with a tiny bit of fic in it, but that's it. I do cap things, but have never done a picspam. I give access to anybody who gives me access, but it's a bit of an empty gesture, because I basically never lock anything.
An example post or a few: Honestly, I often am not talking about anything that anybody besides me probably cares about. But here is a short, general post about the treatment of ladies on A:TLA - not in-depth, but still hopefully a little interesting.
Any woman-centric recs to share? Most recently, I have found myself going back more than once to this (ST:XI, OFCs), this (SG:1, Sam Carter and OFC), this (HP, Hermione and Luna and Ginny), and this (Arthurian Legend, Guinevere). And I think this Kahlan and Cara picspam and this Lwaxana Troi picspam are both lovely (and they were both done for the fantastic Fuck Yeah, She's Awesome challenge).

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Creator, beta and cheerleader!

Your top three favorite women: My mom, my grandma, Dana Scully.

More space to love on women: I REALLY LOVE DANA SCULLY. My first crush was on Annabeth Gish. My other first crush was Amanda Tapping in Stargate. I love all the Disney channel girls and can karaoke videos like nobody's business. I love Disney too. Does Nala count as a woman? She is occasionally my personal hero. I also like women in books. Scout is me, sometimes, and I love Lady Dedlock in Bleak House (and Esther! I also love everyone in Bleak House, so.) I went out of bandom writing about Greta Salpeter and that was the best thing I ever did in that fandom. (Well. I wrote more stuff about her after I wrote about her, but that remains I think the work I am most proud of in bandom.) I love the women in Twin Peaks but especially Shelley and Audrey.

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I like to write, I like to read. I sometimes watch fanvideos.

What's your style of journaling? Fandomish, occasionally personal, ofter hysterical and always hyperbolic

An example post or a few: Post about fanvids and Gillian Anderson. Finals-induced poll about the hotness of pregnant women

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? I'm writing in Merlin fandom. More specifically, it's a Gwen/Morgana contemporary AU story with a bit of politics thrown in.
Your top three favorite women: I'm not a fan of rankings, but I love Granny Weatherwax in the Discworld series, Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, all the characters in DEBS, and both the lead ladies in Kissing Jessica Stein.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I read and write both slash and femslash (about equal amount of each) in Merlin, HP and Devil Wears Prada fandoms.
What's your style of journaling? I've no idea how to answer this one.
An example post or a few: UK politics AND fandom (recs to slash fic about politics); Please keep your assumptions away from my ass (about normalization and sex scenes)

Name/stats/about you: 26 year old genderqueer Australian. Currently a politics major at university. Possibly far busier than I need to be because big bangs are taking over my life.

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Sadly, I don't have time to write anything due to assignments and exams and everything else, but I still wanted to participate somehow so I signed up as a beta.

Your top three favorite women: The two who are always on my list are Marie Curie and Rosalind Franklin. I'm not even in science any more, but IDK, I still love them anyway. <3 Also, Aset (Goddess). Because She would kick my arse if I didn't mention Her. D:

More space to love on women: I don't really know where to start with this. But there are women I find awesome, even if I don't particularly show it that well. Gwen Stefani and Shirley Manson are constant favourites. Totally happy to slash them and admire them and such. Marieke Hardy and Julia Zemiro are another two of my girlcrushes.

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? Creating, mostly fic, but I do random wallpapers for inspiration, and I've done two fanmixes now! D: They're... quite fun. I have enjoyed doing them. It's like making old skool mix CDs, which I miss doing. Consuming, well, mostly fic, because the fandoms I tend to hang around in are mostly about the fic, rather than about other types of fanworks. Podfic, for example, is a strange phenomenon I'd only ever heard about in passing and have never really encountered it before.

What's your style of journaling? Random. Inconsistent. Can go from srs bizniz (gender, sexuality, politics, meta) to fandom to random life updates and back again in quick succession. When, of course, I remember to post. University keeps me busy so I don't post as frequently as I'd like.

An example post or a few: Srs Bizniz - one of my 'start on one topic, end up somewhere else' posts. || Fandom - picspam, ergo image heavy (like, very, as I used some rather large images), but it's all about pretty women. :D

Any woman-centric recs to share? Some of the best femslash I've read was written by a friend of mine, but they're all flocked and they're all obscure RPS pairings anyway. Oh well. That was a bit redundant, wasn't it? XD

Name/stats/about you: Skimbli, 25, Australian, genderqueer, lesbian, reader, writer. Employee for a home-grown clothing company. Fan of fantasy, science fiction, heavy metal music, chocolate, queer fiction in general. Owned by a cat and a dog.
How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? I'm just creating, for my first time. A femmeslash romance between a history student and a (sentient) zombie ... featuring crazy things like zombie attacks, gunfights, two kick-arse ladies, and all the difficulties of falling in love with someone who hungers after your brains...
Your top three favorite women: How do I pick just three? (No, seriously.) A lady I work with at work had escaped an abusive relationship and forged her own life - she is tough, courageous and awesome, and everything I could ever hope to be. My grandmother, for surviving World War 2, near-poverty, and the demands of a very large family with grace and humour. Elizabeth Weir from SGA, for being such a damn awesome leader in a difficult position!
More space to love on women: More women in sci-fi I adore: Martha Jones (for being so quietly kick-arse, strong, and capable in everything she does), Gwen (for being empathetic, compassionate, caring and so very human in a world that tries to strip away those sorts of qualities), Samantha Carter (for being bold and intelligent, and having the guts and intellect to blow up a sun) and Kaylee (for being open, honest, and caring).
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? Queer original (usually fantasy/sf/paranormal) fiction with good characterisation that isn't completely heavy on the romance. I tend of late to end up writing slash as a part of exploring my own gendered identity (it's a point of mine to include interesting female characters in my slash stories, though), but I'll read anything, and I want to write more femmeslash and women-focused stories - because women in fiction need more love, and I'm tired of not finding enough women-focused stories in genre queer fiction.
What's your style of journaling? A mix of fiction, ramblings about anything that crosses my mind from sewing to fashion dolls to chocolate, and ranting about everything in the world that annoys me.
An example post or a few: A rant, a ramble, and a ficlet. There will be rambling about the writing of this story, I promise!
Any woman-centric recs to share? No online recs, but if you like lesbian fantasy, I can't recommend Jane Fletcher's books enough. Her writing is witty and clever while her characters are flawed, interesting, and believable - and her worldbuilding is like nothing else I've read.
Free space: I'll friend and chatter away to anyone. If you're willing to share any recs for well-written, well-characterised original femmeslash, I'd love you forever!

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? I'm creating fic, first time on a big bang!
Your top three favorite women: Kara Thrace (BSG), Zoe Washbourne (Firefly) and Uhura from both TOS and STXI
More space to love on women: Oh there's too many! Willow, Aeryn Sun, River. I always had a soft spot for Eowyn and her awesome "No living man am I" reveal.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I'm more multi fandom in what I consume than what I create, which is fic mainly, but I love watching vids and periodically try my hand at them. I've finally got software that works with my computer, so I'm going to be trying more on that. I make graphics too occasionally. I've found that while I can have a short attention span for fandoms, I never really stop loving something. (Case in point: Harry Potter, my first fandom, which I still read and write in.)
What's your style of journaling? Mainly fandom, some RL stuff about family and studying and queerness. Squee or rants over tv shows/books/movies, linkspams, fanworks, and recs at my reccing journal.

Your top three favorite women: Um. Man I hate making top anything lists. Three female characters I'm enjoying immensely at the moment are Kahlan(Legend of The Seeker), Olivia(Fringe) and Kalinda(The Good Wife).
More space to love on women: Kalinda/Alicia(and to some degree Diane) on The Good Wife and Ellen/Patty on Damages are all amazing female characters that have made me not only watch procedural dramas, but love them. So much with the sparkly hearts around awesome female characters ♥
Also, if Brittany and Santana on Glee could just get their own talk show, I would be on that like you wouldn't believe.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? Graphics(especially icons, but a good picspam can highlight amazing things and tell a story of their own), meta, vids, and I do love me a good fic(though unfortunately I'm a very slow reader).
What's your style of journaling? Pretty random. Most regular topics are icons, recs, linkspams and memes, but I do sporadically write ficlets, short episode thoughts and personal stuff. I also seem to have gone on a bit of a comm-creating spree *g*
An example post or a few: Do you even remember me? Sarah Connor? Blowing up Cyberdyne? Hasta la vista, baby? Ring any bells? -- You also put hydrogen in blimps, and that was bad. -- OMG WTF SLASHGOGGLES BBQ! -- Just Google it. -- Needs moar Wendy Watson. -- Madonna, like, wrote a song about it. and What a Mord'Sith wants. How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? I'm doing a mix of fic, icons, and fanmixes, with the theme of women from BBC's Merlin. (The fic's a weird Gwen-centric Terminator-style AU.) I'm also doing some cheerleading *\o/*

Your top three favorite women: THREE? My all-time top three would be ladies from Doctor Who: Erimem (Egyptian would-be-Pharaoh Princess turned time traveller turned ruler of a planet!), Romana (who is intelligent and witty and brave but also likes Edwardian cross-dressing, making sonic screwdrivers and pwning the Doctor), and Martha Jones (I'd rely on Martha if the world was ending!).

But currently I'm enjoying the company of Amy Pond, River Song, Kahlan and Cara, and Merlin's Guinevere.

Oh, and top three women in the real world are....Josie Long (*draws hearts all around her*), Julia Indelicate, and Yoko Ono.

Yes, I just listed eleven. NO I AM NOT SORRY.

More space to love on women: Good grief, where to start! I've always loved women and female characters - I remember fangirling Angelina Johnson when I was eight. (It seems like I've always loved my minor characters too, haha.) There are so many ways to be awesome; you have women who kick ass, quite literally - Leela (from Doctor Who; I think there's another one about) who throws knives, blowing-shit-up adventurers like Ace, and Kahlan and Cara, who will dazzle you with their hair before turning their magic and weapons on you. And then there are those like Mary Malone, who's patient and intelligent and just really really lovely, and Guinevere, who doesn't have magic or power but who's courage, grace, and heart make her indispensable to Camelot. Claudia Brown's the person you want if you want to work a team, Lily Potter saved the world with her love, Emma Peel's been saving Britain with style since the '60s, and er, WOMEN ARE JUST TOTALLY AWESOME, OKAY?

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I love fanworks about my favourite characters, and most of the time my favourite characters are, um, women XD I read het and femslash, mostly; slash I don't mind but it's not my cup of tea. I adore crack-y AUs and heartbreaking prose, anything that's well-written.

What's your style of journaling? I whine about Japan and squee about fandom. Sometimes I'm a bit more coherent. Only sometimes.

An example post or a few: Hmm. Fuck Yeah She's Awesome Picspam: Enmyria from Merlin. I've also posted fanmixes (Arthur/Gwen, Morgana/Morgause), and a few other tidbits.

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Writing fic. I've been trying to choose between a thing about Juliet Burke on LOST as trans or a late-steampunk Gossip Girl AU focusing on Vanessa, Blair, and Serena. I'm currently leaning toward the latter.

Your top three favorite women: Fictionally? Buffy Summers, Maggie Chascarillo, Lisa Simpson, Selina Kyle, Aeryn Sun, and Miss Piggy (that's six. Sue me). Real-life-ly, Hannah Arendt, Angela Davis, and bell hooks.

More space to love on women: I am falling hard for the ladies on Community - they're neurotic and weird and supportive and hilarious. Over the past year, I've also gotten a bit more into anime and manga than I used to be, and I'm head over heels for Pretty Cure (the girls' power comes in holding hands!), Yotsuba&!, and Claymore. I've also been in mainstream comics fandom for a while now, and though current canon hurts my *soul*, I'm never not going to be in love with Catwoman and Wonder Woman and Speedy and Donna Troy and Grace Choi and Scandal Savage and every other brilliant, physically powerful, gorgeous lady, whether she's trying to do right or just trying to survive. I also have a thing for sharp-tongued older ladies, whether Lily van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl or Martha Rodgers on Castle: show me some elegance, perfect confidence, and a little world-weariness, and I'm a goner.

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I like to write fic and make fanmixes and icons; that describes my consumption of fanworks, too.

What's your style of journaling? Crappy. I'm still finding my legs on DW; entries tend to be short and link-heavy. I rant a lot! Usually about social justice/queer issues. I also talk about TV, comics and knitting.

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Only writing, I'm afraid. Between full work, full graduate school, etc. I didn't want to disappoint more than a handful of people if I fell apart under the onslaught.

Your top three favorite women: God...I still have my first girl crush on Daine from Wild Magic from 4th grade. Then there's Dr. Who's girls--particularly Donna Noble because of her quirky style. I also love just about all the Star Trek women, Firefly, Criminal Minds, and a handful of American Comics (though its sometimes a love/hate situation)

More space to love on women: What can be said? Women are awesome--and so often are left out of stories or warped, or any number of things. I have an unending love for stories about women who start out brow beaten and rise up--in some way. Think Harper from Angels in America. I also love geeky women, like Penelope from Criminal Minds. Strong women are great but I love it when they have more than just strength and a heart that needs melting and I think Castle has that, as well as some other fabulous female characters. I could go on, and I'm sure someone would like me to, but I'll leave it at that before I get off on a tangent that never ends!

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? Well, my journal says "Disturbing Slash"--but I actually have written and have enjoyed writing about women, I just don't often post those works. Most of my pieces focusing on women are gen, though a little not-quite-feme-slash sometimes works its way in. Modern or modern fantasy... perhaps a bit odd and most certainly character focused. I enjoy consuming much of the same--I like things that make me think, that dip me into a characters world and mind. I like a little darkness, a bit of bitter humor, and a steady hand that wields the world and the situations with confidence. I can only hope in vein that my own works display at least some of that.

What's your style of journaling? Whatever comes to mind, really. Sometimes I bitch about writing, sometimes I bitch about work or school. Most often I ramble about almost being kidnapped by religious people or whatever interesting thing has happened recently. Writing pops up at random. I also sometimes rant.

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? I am writing a novella about Zoe Saldana. \o/

Your top three favorite women: Elizabeth Imbrie. I LOVE LIZ IMBRIE. I will not hear a word against her. I am also hugely fond of Elizabeth Swann (see the same linked entry) and Rachel Maddow. (Because she is AWESOME. And ADORABLE.)

More space to love on women: *cackles* Here, have a list of thirty women about whom I can honestly say fuck you, she's awesome. Also my feminism tag, but that has a little more rage than love.

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I am a text-based creature. I have been teaching myself to watch vids for the past year or so, but it is still not how I interact with media best. (I don't have a TV, never have, so I tend to get to know canons through scripts, including movies.) I write novels, I read novels, text make me amazingly happy.

What's your style of journaling? Publicly, everything is crossposted from Ragnell, which is fannish — mostly picspam, recs, and links. The access-locked stuff is mostly wittering about what's going on in my life.

An example post or a few: You should probably check out my sticky ten things i assume you know about me. I also talk about the Organization for Transformative Works.

Any woman-centric recs to share? *more cackling* This is a fascinating Summer Glau meta vid. This is a Jo & Ellen Harvelle celebration vid, Rabbit Hearted Girl (Raise It Up). Fuck Yeah Zoe Saldana has been making me happy recently. I love Virago, 17 facts about Nyota Uhura. This is a super-high-resolution photograph of Keira Knightley with absolutely gorgeous eye makeup. I'm writing a sequel to the story I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] thelittlebang, which is An Unlike Fashioning. It's a modern uber of Arthurian legend, and the focus is on the reincarnations of Morgan La Fay and Nimue, with a side order of Elaine of Astolat, Gawain, and Ennis of Hautdesert (the wife of the Green Knight in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and, of course, she didn't have a name, so I had to make one up for her).
Your top three favorite women: It changes all the time, but, for now, Elizabeth Weir, Sophie Devereaux, and Morgan La Fay
More space to love on women: Women are amazing. I love the potential inherent in female characters, and seem to be unable to write fic that doesn't pass the Bechdel Test.
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? I read fanfic and meta all the time! I have a harder time viewing fanart and videos, because, when I browse from work, I can't look at many images, and I can't stream videos at all. Stupid bandwidth problems. When I get home, I often don't have time to. So I love viewing art and vids, but I don't get enough.
What's your style of journaling? I babble about my RL life under lock, and I babble about fandom and my other hobbies (esp. belly dance, gaming, knitting) publicly. I admire the people that talk about gender, race, and sexuality more often than I do, and I often listen (er, read), but don't contribute as much.

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? As a creator. I'm absolutely in love with Recs Lists and I plan to compile one dealing with women in comics (Marvel, hopefully!).

Your top three favorite women: Difficult to manage this, but here goes: Real life - Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, my best friend (who doesn't journal). In fiction, Agent Abigail Brand (Marvel), Hisako Ichiki (Marvel), Fiona Glenanne (Burn Notice), Gwen Cooper (Torchwood), Jean Grey (Marvel). Yes, that's more than 3. I'm bad at directions.

More space to love on women: I realized about six months ago that while my original writing focuses on women, my fanfic doesn't. I don't really understand why there's a disconnect there, but I've set out to read all the best fanfic I can find in my fandoms. I hope to share (at least some of) it in this ficathon!

What sort of works do you like to consume/create? Fic. Picspam. Meta.

What's your style of journaling? I don't know that I have a style? I just sort of... talk to people online, I guess. It's like a running conversation in my head. I just write it down. On DW, I mostly write about real life, although I'm making an effort to share the fannish love. My fic is primarely on LJ (wizefics).

How are you participating in ladiesbigbang? Writing fanfic! If it all goes well, I've already had to scrap an idea because it was far too much to write in the time frame (back-story on Nina from Being Human, but I've sworn to myself it will get written). I'm currently considering something else in the BH universe or possibly something focusing on Amy for Doctor Who. She is my new love, and I wish to write epic AU adventures.
Your top three favorite women: Three is seriously narrowing it down, a lot. I'm going to put it in three RL women and fictional, though, because then it's easier for me. RL: my mum, my best friend and a recent friend. They're all inspiring, for a number of different reasons, and they're all amazing. Fiction characters would be predictable, I think: Buffy, because BtVS was such a large part of my childhood and adolescence and she really inspired me, over and over again. Martha from Doctor Who because she saved the world with her words, because she wanted to be a doctor and got it, because she was in love but was smart enough and brave enough to get out. Because I never thought Martha/Mickey was just "settling". Because The Family of Blood was basically Martha showing how much of an amazing person she was. Alex from Wire in the Blood because she was pretty kick ass. She was an amazing detective, with a young son whom she loved. She was compassionate and capable, smart and resilient and she respected people that deserved respect. I loved her.
More space to love on women: Oh, wow, the whole female cast on Mercy is pretty flipping awesome. I love Sonia best, I think, and then Chloe but Veronica is still way up there--she's been through so much and she's got a ton of flaws but she's a damn good nurse and a damn good person who will honestly answer patients questions. Parker, Sophie, Maggie, Tara from Leverage. I do not have enough words to express how amazing I think they all are. The women from Coupling, especially Susan. (Gina Bellman as Jane is pretty hilarious, too.) Doctor Who has woman after woman to fall in love with--Martha I've already mentioned as my favourite but honestly it changes all. the. time. Rose is amazing because she was so brave, right from the off, and compassionate. She was stuck in another world but found her way back to save the friggin' world. Donna was amazing because she was mature and knew what she wanted and worked for ages to get it. She was brave, too, and had such a good heart. She took no one's shit and demanded respect because she deserved and she knew it. Her ending still makes me sniffly. And Amy is up there, too for being funny and adventurous. I love that she doesn't talk about her feelings much and has obvious trust/abandonment issues. I love her brashness and her stubbornness and the way she's sometimes reckless. She's not my favourite companion yet, but she's becoming it. And I can't forget Classic Who, though I've seen less of it: Sarah Jane Smith and Ace, and even Susan. Doctor Who is amazing for its women. Other than that, Being Human is the place to go--Toby Whithouse created such brilliant characters with Annie and Nina. Ones a ghost who just wants to please but she's more than that: she's funny and cheerful for the most part and she's very, very loyal to her friends. Nina is smart, with a sharp tongue and a wicked sense of humour and she's been through a lot. Penny from BBT, all the girls from Glee, Juliet from Psych and Morgana and Gwen from Merlin also deserve a shout out because they're amazing, but I think I've already talked too much!
What sort of works do you like to consume/create? Plotty, I suppose. I love my 'ships as much as anyone but if it's just romance, I'm not that interested. I love action-adventure, I love quests, I love banter and humour. I adore crack. AUs are my favourite, either completely AU or 'what if' scenarios. I read gen, het, slash and femslash. I tend to read more slash, but I write more gen and femslash.
What's your style of journaling? Rambling, like this. I don't journal on DW at this point in time but I feel I should start--some of my favourite communities are on my DW circle. I don't journal often on LJ, either. I talk about a mixture of RL and fandom. I squee a lot.
An example post or a few: Squee about Iron Man 2 and squee about a Mika concert.
Any woman-centric recs to share? [community profile] where_no_woman. I've been reading a lot of Big Bang Theory lately so: Penny, with focus on her acting and her hilarious relationship with Sheldon. Gen, slightly Penny/Sheldon. This is amazing. It's a BBT/Doctor Who crossover, with Penny being a BAMF as she helps save the world. Chuck fandom, half Chuck POV but completely focused on Ellie. It's an Ellie finds out story and I love it <3.

Awww! I'm sorry to hear that you've scrapped Nina's back story. I shall eagerly await your revisit of that idea!

I'm behind on Doctor Who, so I've not seen anything about Amy (although I hear that she's awesome!). Donna was my favorite, for pretty much the reasons you describe. I ♥ Donna so much!
